Featured on Etsy Item of the Day!

Etsy Item Of The Day

Today my beeswax tea lights and my shop are featured on Etsy Item of the Day. This site is beautifully organized and a great resource for all of us who love Etsy!

They included a picture of my tea lights in the gorgeous wood holders made by Peg and Awl.

This has inspired me to get back into my work on this blog! So expect to see more entries soon.

In the meantime check out this great feature!

Team Tuesday: Barnegat Bay

This past Saturday I was one of the Etsy NJ members that set up to vend at the Barnegat Bay All About the Waterfowling Day. It was great to connect in person with these fellow team members! It was so fun browsing through these items in person that I just wanted to show off some of them here.

Snowed In!

We got a snowstorm last night that left us with drifts a couple feet tall in the backyard. Our poor little dog just looked at the wall of snow at the door like, "Now what am I supposed to do?" :)

So since I'm stuck inside today I might as well enjoy it! I put together this lovely selection of picks from the Helping Others Street Team (HOST) and the EtsyNJ team. Enjoy!

Friday Finds: Promote Your Shop!

I've found a shop on Etsy that is perfect for all your promoting needs. This shop is called Bitsy Creations, and there's a sister-shop called Bitsy's Greetings where you can find all kinds of great cards and stationary.

But my focus is on promotion items today. Now is the time that shops should be getting the materials they need to get the word out for Christmas shoppers. This postcard would be perfect to include with current orders. You could remind people about buying handmade Christmas presents, or you can promote a sale or just highlight a few items from your shop. Now's the time to start planning, and Bitsy Creations can help with Custom Postcard Design.
Or maybe you've just started your own business and you're looking for a professional logo to start the branding process. It's good to put your brand on your business cards, online or print advertisements, and product labels. Here's a great package to get you started with a custom logo and branding package made just for you.

And last but not least, I think it's very important to include thank you notes in with your orders. And it's even better if you can put your brand on those too. Bitsy Creations has these great customizable Thank You Cards. They're just the right size for including with your orders.

Find out more about Bitsy Creations through her shops, Twitter, Blog and Facebook.

Featured Shop: Create a Thought

CREATEaTHOUGHT is a lovely Etsy shop containing all kinds of handmade, vintage, and upcycled items. There are many unique items to choose from including great handmade journals and cards. But for I must admit to being biased toward candle items, so I picked this Vintage Wood Star Candle Holder as my favorite item.

This excerpt from CREATEaTHOUGHT's profile gives some insight into motivation behind the craft.
"CREATEaTHOUGHT's mission is to help you do just that. I provide items that fit your personal writing and recording style. If you find that you are in need of a different style I will strive to create a personalized item just for you! Each journal is created to be unique and one of a kind.

I want to be able to provide you with something that is not mass produced. You will not have to worry about someone saying 'I have that same journal!'"

Featured Shop: Bags by Melanie

At Bags by Melanie you'll find a wonderful selection of bags, purses, and key fobs. There are lots of colors and styles to choose from and prices to suit anyone's budget.

It was tough choosing a favorite but I finally decided on this bag called Charm.

Melanie talked with me a little about herself and her art:
"My name is Melanie and I am a stay at home mom of three children, two boys (11 and 3) and a girl (1 1/2). I started my stay at home business of making bags and accessories three years ago this August.

"I make and design my own patterns, because of this each bag is slightly different from the one before it. I let the fabric tell me what it wants to be. Just because I have a piece of fabric doesn't necessarily mean that it belongs made into a tote bag. My brain is always full of ideas, some good some not so good, but they are always floating around. I only make one this at a time to make sure I am giving each piece the attention it deserves."

Shop Feature: Lucky Stars Origami

Lucky Stars Origami
is a great Etsy shop filled with unique handmade jewelry at great prices. The bright and colorful designs are perfect for spring. These origami flower earrings are my favorite item in her shop:

Here's a little about how she got started making origami jewelry:
"I started doing origami because of a boyfriend I had in high school. He was really into it. We even went to the origami convention in New York a couple of times. After we broke up, I stopped for a little while and I've just recently started up again. I saw these spirals and I thought they would be perfect for earrings! Then I decided to try stars... and it's snowballed from there!"

Shop Feature: Rhi's Bits and Beads

Rhi of Rhi's Bits and Beads makes beautiful jewelry at affordable prices. And she also has a great selection of jewelry supplies. There are some breathtaking stones in her collection!

Rhi has taken the time to write to me about her shop and her art.
I'm a rock hound, gem collector, and bead addict who lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My passion for rocks and gems naturally led me to the creation of jewelry, and I've been creating off and on for the past 15 years.

My favorite materials to work with are Pearls and natural stones that are created by Mother Earth.

I'm hoping to soon be able to take some metal smithing classes, so I can incorporate pieces from my gem collection into jewelry.
I've put together a sampling of her items to create this Spotlight on ByHand.me. Please feel free to go to this spotlight to see the whole selection and to leave a comment.

Cool site: byhand.me

I just discovered this site. I'm sure it's been around for a long time but I'm a little slow. :)

Just one of the site's features is that it allows members to make these great "spotlights" (similar to Etsy treasuries). Here's the first one I've made. It features all my items. I'm already planning my next one to include fellow Etsy friends. Too much fun!!

Featured Shop: Yaffa Dreams

Susan of Yaffa Dreams makes lovely jewelry and accessories at affordable prices. I've chosen a couple of my favorites. Just click on the pictures to see more information about the items and how to buy them. Also take a look below where she adds a special offer for Dragon's Den readers!

Susan a little info with me about her shop and her inspiration.

"My name is Susan and I started creating items to sell on Etsy when I moved back to Florida and couldn't find a job. This helps keep me sane and also make a few extra dollars.

I love using different items to make jewelry. I make a lot of things out of hardware, guitar picks, etc. And sometimes, I combine them. I like shimmery, sparkly beads. And I like most items with hearts.

My daughter has a section in my shop called Fantastical Awesomeness. She creates the items and earns spending money. I do the business end of it.

Not only do I have jewelry in my shop, but also bags and keychains and vintage items. I also have a giveaway on my blog: www.redheadhomestead.blogspot.com

If you mention "CraftyDragon" in the notes to the seller, I will send you a FREE gift with your purchase."
